Aish to work with Rituparno

The dazzling diva Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has signed up another project titled Devi Chaudhurani with national award winning filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh. Both Rituparno Ghosh and former Miss World have earlier worked together in movies like ‘Chokher Bali’ and ‘Raincoat’. Devi Chaudhurani is a novel written down in 1884 by renowned writer Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.

The film adaptation of this novel is one of Suchitra Sen’s most appreciated works. A source mentioned that the Bachchan bahu has asked for the DVDs of Suchitra Sen’s movie, which is about how a typical prosperous housewife turns into the leader of a group of dacoits. The source added further that the movie will be an adaptation of the novel which is set during the 1880s but Aishwarya Rai wanted to do some research on the actress. The actress has always regarded Suchitra Sen as one of the talented actress that Bengal has ever produced. Suchitra Sen also wanted to meet Aishwarya Rai once, but she knows that this is something impossible. The actress director jodi had several meetings to discuss about this project in detail. Both have confirmed the news of the flick being made. The movie will be made in both Hindi and Bengali versions.
The source further clarified that the script has already been handed over to the sizzling actress and she is about to allot dates for the shooting.

Filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh had discussed this with Aishwarya when they were shooting for Chokher Bali itself but he at least said yes from her when she was in Kolkata last year to accept an award for Raavan. Forty nine films from thirty three countries, but the largest producer of movies, India, as reported has no entry to the 64th Cannes Film Festival. The only Indian entry it seems, at this year's important festival will again be none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Courtesy the cosmetic brand Aishwarya Rai endorses, will be her 10th year when the actress will grace the red carpet. After the Malayalam film Arimpara made a grand entry at Cannes in 2003, the big gap of seven year was filled by Vikram Motwane's Udaan last year.

Aish to play Devi Chaudhurani

In 2003, Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan acted in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Bengali film too. The actress mentioned that she haven’t spoken with Rituparno Ghosh till yet, the last she had a talk with the filmmaker was during the National Awards. Aishwarya Rai however confirmed the news asserting that she has discussed a screen adaptation of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s famous Bengali novel, Devi Chaudhurani, with the director with whom she had earlier associated on Chokher Bali, adapted from Rabindranath Tagore’s Binodini, and Raincoat, inspired by a short story by O Henry.


"Devi Chaudhurani” was first published in 1884 and later translated into English by Subodh Chunder Mitter. The film archives the revolutionary charge by a woman at a time when most were still following the veil system. Endangered by Devi Chaudhurani’s patriotic passion that brought more women out of the shells on the streets, the British banned the book. The ban prevailed only post-Independence. The ace filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh as reports suggests approached the former Miss World for the Hindi-Bengali bilingual when they were shooting for “Chokher Bali” and got a approval from the actress soon when she was in Kolkata last year to bag the Best Actress award for Raavan that also featured Abhishek Bachchan donning negative role..

Aishwarya Rai stated that her relationship with Rituparno Ghoshis not a matter of few seconds and that they have been knowing each other since a long time. Aishwarya also told that the filmmaker narrated almost every flick subject and Chokher Bali and Raincoat have bagged National Awards, for Best Feature Film in Bengali and Best Feature Film in Hindi, respectively. For now, the actress said that this particular movie is a subject that hasn’t been attempted on screen before and would be great experience. Rituparno wants to make Devi Chaudhurani only with Aishwarya Rai. And the actress is ready but now reports have it that, the filmmaker is busy with his another dance drama, Chitrangada—The Crowning Wish.

We wish that everything falls into right place. Rituparno also confirmed the buzz saying that Devi Chaudhurani is going to happen soon. He have always wanted to make this film with Aishwarya but she’s been really busy the last couple of years with other commitments and more recently, she was in limelight busy with Hugh Jackman. Let’s see when Aishwarya will get time to begin with her new project.

Aish in Rituparno's next

Aishwarya Rai will reportedly team up with director Rituparno Ghosh again for his next project. Rituparno Ghosh has casted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in two previous movies Chokher Bali and Raincoat respectively. The filmmaker’s latest project will be an adaptation of Devi Chaudhurani by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. Aishwarya Rai said by mentioning that she always knew she and Rituparno Ghosh would work together again on another movie.

The actress asserted that Rituparno has been coming with so many wonderful offers after Chokher Bali and Raincoat. And it seems as if both of them were destined to team up together once again. Simply gorgeous, the actress further said that she would like to work in Kolkata, director’s home town, as for her the city always welcomes her with open arms. She had love to work there again.
